Satellites play important role in the development of the media landscape in Qatar

Doha, 5th November 2015 – Es’hailSat, the Qatar Satellite today announced that the company has become a Diamond Sponsor of the forthcoming Association of Purposive Visual Media Gathering taking place in Doha from 7th-8th November 2015. The event is supported by leading media companies such as Al Jazeera, Al Rayyan, and Al Sharq and is considered an important platform for media development in Qatar and the MENA region.

According to the latest research, the dynamic broadcast and digital media sector in the MENA region is expected to grow annually by 7% from 2016-2019. This growth is in part fuelled by premium local Arabic content. With Qatar’s first satellite, Es’hail-1 in operation and a second satellite, Es’hail-2 on schedule for 2016, Es’hailSat is ideally placed to support the continued growth and expansion of media organizations. The company’s 25.5E broadcasting hotspot provides premium content, communications independence, quality of service and market penetration.

Es’hail-1 was launched on 29th August 2013 and officially entered service on Qatar National Day, 18th December 2013, broadcasting programs for Al Jazeera and beIN SPORTS. In addition to providing transmission for established news, sports and entertainment channels, a growing number of new Arabic channels are choosing Es’hailSat to launch in the MENA region. Both Qatari cultural channel Al Bidda and Al Araby Television Network, a London-based platform for Arab youth, talent, energy and aspirations, both recently launched HD channels exclusively on Es’hail-1.

Ali Al Kuwari, President and Chief Executive Officer of Es’hailSat, commented: “We are delighted to participate in the Association of Purposive Visual Media Gathering here in Doha. The Es’hailSat satellite program is key to the expansion of the media and communications sector in the region and the first step in the development of a sustainable national communications network as part of the country’s 2030 vision.
