JOB PURPOSE / ROLE:

To develop, implement, and maintain satellite and ground operations procedures for QSC’s Fleet, including providing subject-matter expertise, advise, and support to Satellite Control Engineers when needed, to ensure compliance, meet objectives, and enhance satellite operations efficiency.

Job Description

  • Provide subject-matter-expertise to the development, launch and in-orbit testing of new satellites, including supporting the Satellite’s Project team development to ensure operation requirements are considered and consequently fulfilled.
  • Participate in the development of software tools, methods, and procedures to improve testing and measurement capabilities.
  • Test and assess the viability/compatibility of new systems and equipment to ensure satellite operations requirements are met.
  • Contribute to the identification and assessment of new technologies to enhance improvement and best practices.
  • Prepare and validate the readiness of the Satellite and Ground Operations procedures to safeguard compliance.
  • Support the development, launch and in-orbit testing of new satellites to ensure satellites function according to requirements.
  • Partake in the development of software tools, methods, and procedures to improve testing and measurement capabilities.
  • Test and assess the viability/compatibility of new systems and equipment to ensure it align with QSC’s vision and mission.
  • Conduct research on new technologies to suggest the use of the newest and most up-to-date technologies.
  • Perform trend analysis and anomaly resolution for satellite operations to enhance improvement for the Satellite Operations.
  • Provide subject-matter-expertise and support to Spacecraft Control Engineers during Maneuvers and other critical operations to ensure staff’s knowledge is present and up to date.
  • Partake in the preparation of Satellite Operations procedures using different tools to configure the Payload and the Platform (APT, PCC, PCS…).
  • Validate procedures using the DSS to ensure that procedures are up to date and implemented according to requirements.
  • Prepare Satellite Health reports monthly to ensure senior management are aware of findings.
  • Provide input for the training of Satellite Controllers and other team members by developing simulation scenarios, certify Satellite Controllers to ensure that staff’s knowledge and training are up to date considering changes in the environment.
  • Report all failures associated with the satellite’s performance and communicate this with the relevant parties to ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Work closely with Senior Satellite Operations & FD Engineer on Flight Dynamics aspects and Anomaly Management to enhance satellite operations efficiency.
  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
  • Contributes to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering global standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
  • Assist in the preparation of timely and accurate statements and reports to meet department requirements, policies, and quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or any related area from a reputable university.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience in Satellite Operations, with at least 3 – 5 years in an expert role.

Industry experience would be an added advantage

Job-Specific Skills (Generic / Technical):

  • Excellent knowledge in Satellite Operations, Satellite Platform and Payload Engineering deep with strong and demonstrated experience in drafting policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Satellite Simulator Systems,
  • Knowledge of AOCS, Thermal Subsystem, TCR, Data Handling, Power Supply, Telecommunication Payload, COMSEC,
  • Knowledge of a Satellite Monitoring and Control system (EPOCH suite will be an advantage plus),
  • Knowledge of DS2000 from MELCO will be an advantage,
  • Excellent use of the English and Arabic language
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
